Irina Voronina: A True Russian Beauty

On April 28th I had the pleasure of making up Russian model and actress Irina Voronina in Laguna Beach, CA. Photographer Joe Scarnici ran the show along with hair stylist Sarah Goethals, clothing stylist Linda Varol, and cinematographer/agent Drew.

Irina came to America 8 years ago to become Playboy’s Miss January 2001. Since then she has appeared in films such as “Reno 911: Miami!”, “Balls Of Fury”, “Epic Movie”, TV series “Saul Of the Mole Men” and “Supreme Court Of Comedy”. Her most recent films “The Casino Job” and “Strike” just came out on DVD as well. And if that weren’t enough, she was the 2008 St. Pauli Girl Beer spokesmodel.

Setting aside her fame and talent, Irina is a very sweet and down to earth person whom I genuinely enjoyed being around. At the end of the long 9 hour shoot, she was still all smiles and so appreciative of our entire team. Currently the images from the shoot are being submitted to a Russian magazine. The photos also made Macenstein’s “Mac Chick of the Month” June 2009.

Nils Winter '09-'10 Ad Campaign

Last week I was hired by Nils for a hair and makeup job up in Big Bear, California. It was a lifestlye shoot to advertise their new 2009-2010 clothing line. Kat Borchart ran the show as she led us all over Big Bear Mountain in the slushy snow in 70 degree weather. The makeup was natural with rosy cheeks and berry stained lips. When we shot the resort wear, I smoked out the eyes and darkened the lips for a more seductive and sophisticated look. Our crew of 8 stayed in a 3-story lake front cabin on Lake Arrowhead. We were definitely not rouging it!

ATP World Tour Campaign 2009

The campaign includes TV spots, billboards, online banners, virals, merchandise, fan giveaways and PR stunts.

Last week I had a chance to be apart of the new multimillion dollar campaign for the ATP World Tour featuring all of the top players like Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and James Blake. The purpose for the shoot was to showcase the sport’s core values as a one-on-one gladiatorial battle of world class athletes, full of intensity and passion. My job was to make that competitive intensity more realistic, so I smothered each player with baby oil, spayed their whole body with water and finished up with a touch of gloss on their lips. The shoot was photographed by Getty Images sports and celebrity photographer Clive Brunskill.

Beverly Hills 213 Magazine Cover Shoot with Veronica Kay Baker

On March 3, 2009 photographer Joe Scarnici, stylist Jim Olarte and I were hired to shoot the cover of Beverly Hills’ 213 Magazine, Health and Beauty Issue. We shot my good friend, pro surfer and model Veronica Kay Baker at my home in Laguna Beach. The makeup was glowing and fresh and the hair was messy yet structured, inspired by a “modern day active woman who still takes the time to look her best.” Veronica’s background with Roxy made it an effortless shoot filled with good laughs and some awesome images!

Eco Chic: Green is the new black

Charity with a green message...what could be better? On November 23, 2008 I had the opportunity to make up the beautiful girls of the 2010 National Charity League Saddelback Valley chapter for their annual fashion show. With my two assistants Kelsey and Sam we somehow managed to make up 25 models in only 2 hours! The fashion show was at the Anaheim Marriott and the girls modeled the season’s hottest styles made with organic fabrics including bamboo and other recycled material. The event was a total success and the girls looked fabulous!

Couture in Milwaukee

In mid October I was contacted by photographer Matthew Bushey to put together a pro-bono ad for a high-end gown boutique in Milwaukee to benefit the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra for their Symphony Style event (a big couture fashion show held every year at the art museum in Milwaukee). We shot two models down on the beach in Dana Point, California. The makeup was dramatic and I focused the attention on the eyes. The ad (shown above) was run as a full-page spread in the hardcover Symphony Style publication. The proceeds from this non-profit event went towards music curriculums for public schools in the area.

Rip Curl Summer ’09 Shoot

The Rip Curl Summer ’09 line was shot at the serene Bergamot Spa & Boutique in Encinitas, CA. Flown in the night before from Hawaii, Jet Set's Calli Wagner was in her element within this lush and tropical escape. I did her hair differently for almost every outfit but her makeup stayed the same thought; a beautiful bronzed beach babe! The photographer was Stephen Zeigler who has worked on past campaigns for companies such as Quicksilver, Microsoft, Roxy, and Converse. The day was very laid back and everyone’s attitude was cheerful and positive...a good balance of work and play!

NCL Photoshoot: Headshots

Over a couple weekends in August and September I was hired to do the make up for 25 National Charity League young women. The shoot was for promotional photos for their fashion show that is coming up this November.

Epic

We shot this concept to feature Katharine Story’s hot new men’s line of earthy vintage-inspired pants and boardshorts. Katharine hosted a gallery show at her boutique in Main Beach in mid July in light of the shoot and her new line. The live band, free drinks and good vibes really made the event an “Epic” one.

Green on Green

On June 5th, 2008, Jim, Joe and I brought Green on Green to life. We wanted this story to be authentic, so we took our time when selecting our model, scouting locations and brainstorming hair and makeup. Our model Evan was styled by Jim in a few lively pieces from Katharine Story, of Laguna Beach.

The Look
I created a sultry smoky eye by lining the upper and lower inner and outer eye with black pencil and heavily patted on an array of burnt oranges, crimsons, and hints of plum and yellow. Blending was key for this dramatic drawn-out eye. Lips were stained with a bronzed copper and her cheek bones were heavily contoured with golds and deep browns. Her brows were significantly extended outwards to mimic the direction of her eye shadow. For the hair, I back-combed her entire head, sprayed every inch with hair spray, added clumps of false hair for more height, and sculpted it until it looked finished.

Lululemon Pilates Ambassador Photoshoot

The sun-kissed pilates instructor Amy Cady turned up the heat in Laguna Beach at a sporty photoshoot for Lululemon. The makeup for this shoot was natural. My vision was to create a look with radiant glowing skin and flush cheeks. I kept a natural lip and painted the eyes in warm brown tones.

Shipwrecked Maiden

Watch the behind the scenes of a whimsical narrative photoshoot: Shipwrecked Maiden. Photographer Joe Scarnici set the tone by shooting in black and white film while Laguna Beach stylist Jim Olarte helped adorn this washed up damsel with hand-made shell necklaces, driftwood and feather hairpieces. Katharine Story provided her handmade creations of wrapped skirts and dresses, showcasing her nature-inspired style with vintage elements.

2008 ABC Bridal Fair Anaheim, CA

The Association of Bridal Consultants of Orange County hosted a Vendor Fair last Tuesday April 15th and I was asked to be represented at the fair by Gini Garner, one of OC’s most regarded wedding planners! There were wedding consultants from ABC-OC, ABC-San Diego, ABC-LA, and ABC-Inland Empire. The event was one of my first big breakthroughs into the wedding industry. My dearest friend/model Julie agreed to be my sidekick for the night. It was a blast!
